RV Travel to Freeport, ME

Freeport, Maine is small town roughly 10-15 minutes north of Portland, and you can visit most of the attractions in a business day (8 hrs). This is the town where LL Bean was founded, and has a large shopping square in the middle of the town, and you guessed it a large LL Bean outlet store. You can shop LL Bean outlet stores and grab some food at several cozy eateries all within a 2-3 block area.

Free RV Parking

There is also free overnight RV parking (dry camping only) while you are visiting Freeport and shopping the LL Bean and other stores in the town.

Tip:

Plan on a Day in the Freeport area to explore Freeport, and enjoy free overnight parking at LL Bean if you are traveling in an RV.  Freeport seems to shut down a little early except for the LL Bean which is open 24×7, so I would start with the Eartha exhibit (8:30 – 5:00 M-F) and then finish up exploring Freeport before going to LL Bean since they are open 24×7.

Hidden Gem

Yarmouth, ME is the headquarters of the DeLorme mapping corporation, and is just five miles from Freeport, ME.  DeLorme hosts a FREE Exhibit called “Eartha”, and according to Guinness Book of World Records, Eartha is the world’s largest rotating and revolving globe, which weighs over 5600 pounds and is 41 feet wide and is contained in an atrium within glass walls that allows it to be seen outside from Route 1, and as a bonus is illuminated at night.  Eartha eclipsed a smaller rotating globe in Italy that was 33 foot wide.  See our Eartha Post for additional information on this hidden gem
